from the desk of
the President/CEO..........
During
the summer of 1996, I interviewed with state officials at the
Columbus, Ohio office and shared my vision. I envisioned homes
by East Alliance Neighborhood Development Corporation (EANDC)
growing to the point it would produce 12 self-help homes each
year. In many subsequent conversations throughout the ensuing
years, I repeatedly stated that I never fully realized what a
significant undertaking it would be to produce 12 self-help
homes per year. Fortunately, the individual interviewing me,
also shared the same vision and immediately stated that it
could happen. I am also convinced that those spoken comments
had a profound effect on my life. On that day, 9 years ago,
the seed was planted and I have carefully guarded and nurtured
that vision.
During the
“early years” my vision was but a mere dream. With so many
challenges before the organization, just keeping the doors
open became my daily mantra. Today, a fully stabilized and
fully functional EANDC is ready for growth….and ready to
embark upon the vision planted many moons ago.
I visualize a
2-2-2 initiative. Quite simply, this is building 2 groups of
12 homes in two years with twelve families. This is a very
ambitious goal, one that encompasses the needs of rural, first
time home buyers within 50 miles of Stark. County, Ohio.
I invite you to
share with me, the opportunity to make the vision come
true….the prospect to build safe, decent, affordable housing
for families in our region.
To the future….
